           Dry Needling/ IMS uses very thin needles adapted from traditional acupuncture, and is based on scientific, neurophysiological principles. The goal of treatment is to release shortened muscles which press on and irritate the nerve. Supersensitive areas can be desensitized and the persistent pull of shortened muscles released. When the needle is inserted you will feel a peculiar sensation – like a muscle cramp – which is caused by the muscle grasping the needle. The needling causes your shortened muscle to intensify, then release and lengthen, disrupting the pain signals to give you relief.

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

         After running 10 kilometers, or about 6.2 miles, as fast as possible, runners who received 10 minutes of massage therapy focused on the quadriceps experienced a greater decrease in pain than runners who received 10 minutes of sham joint mobilization, according to recent research.

           The study, “Massage therapy slightly decreased pain intensity after habitual running, but had no effect on fatigue, mood or physical performance: a randomised trial,” involved 78 runners with a mean age of 34, all of whom had been running at least twice a week for the past year.

         CT scans reveal anatomical structures of acupuncture points. A CT (computerized  tomography) scan is a series of X-rays used to create cross-sectional images. In this study published in the Journal of Electron Spectroscopy and Related Phenomena, researchers used in-line phase contrast CT imaging with synchrotron radiation on both non-acupuncture points and acupuncture points. The CT scans revealed clear distinctions between the non-acupuncture point and acupuncture point anatomical structures.

         Acupuncture relieves pain, stiffness, and improves knee function for patients with knee osteoarthritis. Researchers from the Chengdu University of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) investigated the efficacy of acupuncture and Tui Na massage for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. Two groups were compared. Group 1 received only acupuncture and group 2 received a combination of acupuncture and Tui Na massage. Both groups yielded significant positive patient outcomes. The group that received the combined acupuncture and Tui Na care outperformed the acupuncture standalone care group.
