Pilates is an innovative and safe system of mind-body exercise using a variety of equipment to aid in creating a movement pattern that values quality of movement over quantity of repetitions. The goal of Pilates is to elongate and strengthen muscles, and is capable of dramatically transforming the way your body looks, feels and performs- providing beautiful posture, balanced joint support/mobility and graceful motion.

Pilates exercises train several muscle groups at once in smooth, continuous movements. By developing proper technique it is possible to re-train your body to move in safer more graceful patterns of motion. This re-training can be invaluable for injury recovery, sports performance, good posture and optimal health. Many of the exercises are performed in reclining or sitting positions, and most are low impact and partial weight-bearing.

There are many different types of and uses from Pilates equipment. The most unique characteristic of Pilates equipment that use springs for resistance is your body's moving relationship with the spring tension. Springs create a very distinct quality of movement control and flow. Opening the springs creates tensile pressure, giving feedback to make you aware that, for example, you push or pull more with one arm or leg. Your work is to recalibrate and balance the pressure, thereby creating greater efficiency, strength and ease through a variety of the body's movements. This creates the ideal mix of supported range of motion and deep intrinsic strength.

Weekend warriors and elite athletes alike use Pilates as part of their training and recovery regimens to help:
  • Hit the ball farther
  • Run faster
  • Jump higher
  • Correct muscle imbalances
  • Prevent injury
Pilates can be tailored for clients who need a more rigorous training approach or those who need consideration for injuries or movement restrictions. Our Pilates professional will design a well-rounded repertoire that suits your current and future movement needs and goals. Most importantly, Pilates is a sustainable movement practice that is suitable for all ages and abilities to aid them through the entirety of anyone's life!
